SUMMARY:March Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Birds Near and Far At This Month’s Chapter Meeting\n    In March our junior Weminuche Audubon member\, Sage Merrill-Exton\, will get us set for an end to winter weather with a presentation on their family winter trip to Costa Rica. We are looking forward to finding out what they saw in an environment so different than ours.   Next up\, Herb Grover will get us thinking ahead to spring and summer and the 5th season of our Forest Bird Monitoring Project.   All of the proposed and current projects in the forest on Jackson Mountain make the data that we collect on bird populations there especially valuable. Each year\, Herb has collected and evaluated our observations on bird species and numbers and produced both written reports and video summaries.  This year’s report adds a focus on the differences in feeding types\, nesting types and migration patterns within the bird species that we find in the areas that we survey.   If you are new to the project or a returning volunteer\, we hope that you will join us in participating in 2023.  Our survey period overlaps the nesting season from late May to the first week of July.  Volunteers are asked to commit to 1 survey/week (generally 3 hours with travel) and a total of 6 surveys.
