SUMMARY:Bird Migration
DESCRIPTION:This spring\, millions of birds will be migrating to and through the Rockies region. Migration is no small feat for our feathered friends\, and light pollution is making their journeys even harder. Join Zach Hutchinson\, our community science coordinator\, and Ashley Wilson from the International Dark-Sky Association for a free webinar to learn about the growing problem of light pollution and bird migration. Colorado State University Aeroecologist Kyle Horton will also share the science that has revolutionized our understanding of birds’ nocturnal movements. This is a great opportunity for bird lovers in Colorado and beyond to learn the simple ways we can help migratory birds on their journeys. Register now

SUMMARY:April Chapter Meeting
DESCRIPTION: We invite you to join us for our April meeting on Wednesday\, April 20\, at the Community United Methodist Church on Lewis St.  We will gather at 6:00 PM to set up and socialize\, with the meeting starting at 6:30.  For those unable to join us in person\, the meeting will be broadcast on Zoom.  Look for the link on our website\, weminucheaudubon.org.\nWe will hear from representatives of 3 exciting citizen science projects organized through the chapter.  Beverly Compton will discuss the importance of surveys being conducted in the HD Mountains in collaboration with San Juan Citizens Alliance.  The area we are covering is accessed by Fossett Gulch Rd and impacted by natural gas wells.   Kitty Neal will provide an overview of The American Dipper Project and our monitoring of nesting success of these amazing birds.  This survey will take you to our beautiful rivers and streams.\nHerb Grover will lead a discussion of the upcoming 4th season of our Forest Bird Monitoring Project\, documenting bird populations in areas of the national forest which have been subjected to different wildfire prevention treatments.  Grover has posted video summaries of this project on youtube\, found by searching Weminuche Audubon Bird Monitoring Project. Information from these surveys contributes to planning for best forest health treatments through our collaboration with Upper San Juan Forest Health Partnership\, Mountain Studies Institute and the US Forest Service.\nThe success of all of these projects depends on volunteer participation and we encourage you to join us in making a contribution to the understanding of impacts to these bird populations.  Expert birding skills are not required\, one of the goals of these studies is to increase our identification expertise by learning from each other.  Each study requires a commitment as little as only three to four hours per week for the duration of the survey.\nWe also have volunteer opportunities in helping to maintain our native plant garden on the Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership site in town and in training to conduct naturalist tours through the wetlands along the Riverwalk.\nAll Audubon events are open to the public. We are a welcoming group and invite you to come and see what we’re all about. A donation of non-perishable food for the church food bank is appreciated.  For information email us at weminucheaudubon@gmail.com.  \nFollowing is the Zoom link for those unable to attend in person. \nTopic: WAS April Chapter Meeting — Community Science Opportunities\nTime: Apr 20\, 2022 06:30 PM Mountain Time (US and Canada)\n\nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://audubon.zoom.us/j/96436766163?pwd=Um1pZUczWnNSMWsrRUFJTW9CWUJSUT09\n\nMeeting ID: 964 3676 6163\nPasscode: 425707\nOne tap mobile\n+12532158782\,\,96436766163#\,\,\,\,*425707# US (Tacoma)\n+13462487799\,\,96436766163#\,\,\,\,*425707# US (Houston)
