The August meeting of the Weminuche Audubon Society will be very special – IT’S a CAMPOUT!  We’ve reserved the Blanco River Group Campground for one night – Wednesday, August 20th. Bring your camper or tent and you are welcome to spend the night.  We are planning a pot-luck meal with lots of storytelling, and more. We will have some hot dogs, so bring a dish to share; your place settings; chairs; binoculars for a birding excursion; and if you have a pop-up canopy, that might be helpful. You don’t need to stay overnight if you don’t want to – you can just drive on down for the meeting and head home when you are full and refreshed. Come when you can – we’ll plan on eating about 6:00 and festivities will proceed accordingly.

We’re working on plans for some good old-fashioned campfire singing too but without the fire!  If you have an appropriate instrument, bring it along.  What kinds of stories will we tell – bird stories, of course! If it rains, we just may dance in it.

To find the Blanco River Group Campground, drive South from Pagosa on Highway 84 for about 10 miles.  Cross the Green Bridge (Green Steel Bridge – can’t miss it).  A few hundred yards after crossing the bridge is a Forest Service Road to your left (east) – that’s the Blanco River Road.  Turn there – the campground is about 2.5 miles in at the end of the road.
